At that point, you are putting almost entirely on sand and not the fibers. In time, the sand will settle or wash out, and your sand-filled green will become much slower. To date, most synthetic back yard putting surfaces are installed using several inches and layers of sand fill to make the grass fibers stand up, thus causing the putting surface to become very fast.
